Hey guys, I have a swatch for you today. This is another OPI liquid sand nail polish from the Mariah Carey Collection: Get Your Number. I wasn't very interested in this type of finish when I first saw them on the press releases, but I must say, if this kind of polish continues with this level of quality, this may become a favorite of mine. I don't think anything will live up to jelly/sorbet polishes in my eyes, but I'll be the first to admit that this kind of polish surprised me.

I had purchased Stay the Night and Get Your Number first, to test out the formula and have been impressed so far, so I think I'm going to go out and get the other two too. Not too happy about the price hike, but at least it's not as egregious as some other brands *coughmacimlookingatyou*.

Get Your Number is a medium toned blue base in the matte textured finish packed with lots of holographic glitters (some hex and some smaller amorphous shapes). No dupes. The formula is pretty much the same as Stay the Night and is very easy to work with. It dries very quickly too. This polish is much more sheer than Stay the night and there is a subtle nail line after three thin coats so if that bothers you, you will need to do a fourth coat to be safe (again, this polish dries fast so it's not a big issue). Removal is just as easy as the other polishes in this line.

Overall, this is another hit. The formula is great, the finish is cool and the color is sparkletastic. This polish is pretty similar in formula to Stay the Night so either would be a good choice if you're just looking to test the formula. It will set you back $9USD and is available in ulta, jcpenny, and maybe at your local salon.
I have OPI's Stay the Night on the chopping block. Since this is a pretty new texture to my personal knowledge, I don't have any dupes for this polish. It's a blackened base packed with what appears to be pink round glitter. It seems that these 'liquid sand' texture polishes are all the rage. I'll be the first to admit that I've been extremely suspicious of this. The whole crackle polish (my least favorite polishes of all) faze that nail companies went through a few years ago, the matte faze, and all the other gimmicky polishes over the years have made me weary of new textures.

However, I am a huge advocate of innovation and new ideas. Even if someone tries something new but crashes and burns, it is a huge plus in my book that something new was tried. Without innovation, this world would be a pretty boring place. So this new 'liquid sand' line that was introduced with the new Mariah Carey line was kind of a must-try for me.

As far as the formula goes, this is an interesting one. The texture is liquid when going on and slowly dries to a bumpy, semi-matte finish. When the polish is dry, the black base is just sheer enough to show some of the deeper set glitter at certain angles. The polish doesn't dry too quickly, so you have a bit of time to paint the polish on without having to worry about clumping, however, it's not very forgiving once the polish is dried, so don't daddle too much. I needed three coats for full opacity, but I was using very thin coats for each layer. You could probably get away with two coats if you use thicker layers. Removal was pretty painless. I know that the OPI press release says that you should soak your nails in acetone for 10 minutes for removal, but that's not necessary. I found that this comes off about the same as a good glitter - not a breeze, but not a glittery hot mess.
Overall, this polish is pretty awesome. It's a novel idea, but a good one, and the execution was much better than I had first anticipated. The formula was pleasantly surprising with how easy it was to work with and the effect is pretty unique (at least for now). It's available at ulta and at salons near you for $9USD if you are in the USA and various ridiculous marked up prices in other countries.
This kind of polish always gets me because I'm a sucker for light blue shades. Unfortunately for me, these types of light blue are either a hit or miss for my skin tone. For some reason, certain light blue colors clash with my skin and make me look orange and/or ashy (sometimes at the same time) while others look fine. Mostly they clash though, which is a shame since all of them are so pretty in the bottle.

This polish is what appeared to be a China Glaze For Audrey dupe in the press release. Just from the bottle appearance alone, this is not exactly a dupe. They're in the same color shade and seem to have the same undertones but For Audrey is just a smidge lighter. It's not noticeable unless you're really looking. It's also close to China Glaze Aquadelic and essie's Turquoise and Caicos, but with just a hint more green: a subtle difference, but different nonetheless.

This polish. Oh, what to say about it. It's pretty, I'll give you that. But as far as the formula goes? A streaky hot mess. The first layer is patch central. There's balding all around. With the second coat, there is still some areas where the nail bed is visible, which is annoying because i waited for the first layer to fully dry before attempting a second. It took until the third, very thick, very goopy layer for there to be full coverage. And it took some time to dry because of it.

Overall, this is pass for me. I did not like the formula and how hard I had to work for the even coverage even though the final result is pretty good. The color is too similar to For Audrey for it to be a justifiable purchase. And since For Audrey is a permanent color, I'd suggest picking that polish up instead of this one if you want that light Tiffany box blue. If you're dead set on this color, it is available for $8 on essie's website, at ulta and various large chain drugstore retailers like Riteaid, Walgreens and CVS.

If you have any polishes you'd like to see swatched from my stash, let me know and I'll put it in my queue.

Hey guys, I have a small nail art tutorial for you guys today. It's my own version of the pink flowers tutorial that's the go-to of many a nail artist. And I'll be the first to admit that I love my flowery nails. I really do. It's a sickness. But man is it pretty.

Yes, it's still the middle of winter, and yes, there will probably be more winter to come, but one can never be too early for spring. Unless you're my mom. She's not very fond of the pollen dust that seems to stick to you like a second skin.

You can watch the video tutorial here:

There's not much to be said about this one. I used essie's Pink Petal as the base color on all the nails. Then I used acrylic paint to detail the branches and flower. As far as difficulty goes, this one is pretty easy. I think branches are among one of the easiest things you can do. Not only does it not require a steady hand, if you did have straight lines, it would actually look unnatural. So, imperfect perfections, I guess. I used a paint brush for the whole design, but a dotting tool or even a toothpick would work fine for all of it too.
I love Zoya promotions. They're usually a nice savings on colors that are otherwise worth the full price. So you can bet your bottom dollar I'm gonna be ordering some polishes next week. Yes technically you're paying $10 for three polishes, but it's still a 58% savings on each polish.

Any plans to take advantage of this promotion?
Hey guys, hope you had a wonderful holiday! To kick off the new year, I have a nail polish swatch for you. This is essie's Leading Lady from their winter collection of the same name. I had a love-hate relationship with essie. Sheer pinky-nudes are a weakness of mine and essie is a veritable Shangri La of those kinds of colors. One of my favorite polishes of all time (Nude Beach) is from essie's line. Unfortunately, the formula is either a hit or a miss for me even though the colors are to die for. They have some incredible sheer nude-pinks and some awesome creme colors, but sometimes *coughabsolutelyshoreimlookingatyoucough* the formula falls flat.

These days, I don't see much of that problem. Ever since they've branched out from their core line of sheer nudes and release a ton of collections, I feel that they have still been pretty hit or miss with the formula. Even though they don't release 12 color collections as all their collections are usually 6 polishes, they're like MAC cosmetics in releasing like 90849823 collections a year. It's super hard to keep up with and it can get annoying at times. I think I bought almost every polish that they released in 2011 and I've pretty much put myself on an essie ban when I had to change my storage method for the third time because of the ridicuous amount of essies I was getting.

Anyway, Leading Lady is gorgeous to look at. It's a magenta jelly base packed to the brim with small silver hexagon glitters. The glitter will not appear silver unless it is above the top layer of base, but because it is small enough, I doubt any glitter pieces will actual breech the surface. The resulting effect is a multilayered jelly sandwich like and very very pretty. Application did take a learning curve as this polish dries very quickly. If you dally on the brush strokes, the polish will semi dry on you and lay out in clumps. You have about three to four strokes of the polish before it will begin to dry on you. It's a little too fast, in my opinion.

The worst of this polish is removal. It's a straight up glittery mess. You may need to use the cotton ball and foil method for removal if you wish to avoid glitter getting everywhere. And I mean EVERYWHERE. Oh my god, I think I spent a good five minutes trying to dig glitter out from underneath my nails and even then there was still stubborn residue pieces.

Overall, this polish is beautiful if you're willing to deal with the removal issues. I love jelly finishes and that combined with my affinity for glitter during the holidays make this a great polish for the season. Even though Christmas and New Years is over, this is still a nice polish to have if your're feeling glamorous. But again, because this is a glitter, it is a nightmare to remove, but not much more so than any other chunky glitter polish.
Hey guys, I have a nail polish swatch for you today. This is Zoya's Blaze from the 2012 Ornate Collection. I thought the way to spell the name was "Blaise", because of the similarly named Harry Potter character, but the variation does make sense. I think that if you have the balls to name your kid Blaze, you're either a pretty awesome parent or you were trashed at the time of the naming process and your child will hate you for the rest of her life. Either way, it's a cool name.

Out of all the polishes I bought out of this collection, I was probably the least excited for this one. Although this is a great color on it's own and Zoya hasn't yet disappointed me with regards to formula/texture, I have a veritable ton of polishes in the red color family and this one didn't pop out at me as anything special. It was, however, a holo finish, which I do like so I picked it up. It certainly looked nice in the bottle.

Like most other polishes in this particular collection, this is a holo. The base is a deep maroon bordering on magenta with tons of micro holo pieces packed into the suspension. Surprisingly, I don't have a dupe for this. Even with my ridiculous number of reds, I could not find another polish in my collection that came close. Also initally, the base for this polish reminded me of the essie color leading lady. I thought that they were the same base with one holo glitter and one small hex glitters. After comparing the two, it seems as though even the bases are different. LL is more transparent and jelly-like while Blaze is more of an opaque color. I will probably have some pictures of LL up soon so you can see the differences better.

The formula on this polish is on par with Storm since it seems to be similar in both texture and finish. The color is sheer on the first coat and becomes opaque with the second. The dry time is pretty fast and I was able to paint on a second coat with no balding right after finishing the first. Since there aren't any glitter pieces, removal was a breeze.

Overall, this is a good polish to have if you're into this type of color. I liked the formula and the texture and feel that the quality of the product is well worth the price. Blaze is available on Zoya's website, at ulta and various other salons for $8.
This is Zoya's Logan from the Ornate Collection. Because of Storm, the first thing I thought of when I saw the name of this polish was Wolverine. I thought it strange since Zoya polishes were only named after girls. Of course, Logan is one of those gender neutral names that fits either way so it really doesn't matter. But, it did give me pause for a few moments there.

How cool would it be if there was an entire line of polishes dedicated to the X-men, though? I would buy them all, even if they were horrendous quality. Seriously, I'm that obsessed. Anyone out there excited for Days of Future's Past? I know I am.

Anywho, I was as excited for this polish as I was for Ziv. Dark green foils are right up my alley and the press photos/swatches were all gorgeous. Even in the store, I was aching to put this on my nails to see how it would look because it looked damn good in the bottle.

This polish is a hunter green opaque base with gold and silver reflects and a foil finish. I feel like this is almost a hybrid between a foil and a glitter because there does not appear to be any glitter pieces in the polish, but the gold reflects can almost pass for some if you're not scrutinizing it from close up. Either way, the color is nice both in the bottle and on the fingers. No dupes in my stash.

The formula has a great consistency, not to thin or thick. It goes on sheer with the first coat and pretty much is opaque by the second. Drying time is pretty fast. I was able to start on the second coat of polish immediately after my first without any balding. Since there are no actual glitter pieces, removal was a breeze.

Overall, this is yet another great polish from Zoya. The formula is fantastic and the color pay off is great. If you're in the market for a foil green, Logan will most likely be up your alley. This polish is available on Zoya's website, ulta, and various salons for $8 USD. This is Zoya's Storm from the winter Ornate Collection. Just the name made me want this one. It also helps that the polish itself was pleasing to look at, but one of my favorite superheroes as a child was Storm. Never mind that we were technically suppose to identify with Jubilee (and she was also Asian too) but I never liked Mary Sues and that's what she came off to me as. Storm on the other hand, she was cool. Calling up lighting at will, creating hurricanes, etc. During the winter, when I didn't want to go to school, I didn't pray to God for snow. I prayed to Storm. I don't know why I thought that made sense, since I was fully aware that she was a fictional character, but it somehow worked in my mind at the time.

Anywho, with that background, I was definitely going to pick this polish up whether it was a dud or not. It looked pretty awesome on the press release and looked even better on the swatches floating around online. I coveted this one almost as much as I did Ziv, and I'm so glad I was able to get it.

This polish has a semi-sheer black jelly packed full of micro-holo glitter. The polish is sheer with one coat, but becomes opaque with a second coat. When I initally saw the bottle, I thought it might look like a starry night (without the hassle of dotters and brushes and sponges) but by itself, it doesn't look like the night sky because the holographic pieces are packed too closely and reflect too many different colors to really get that feel. As for dupes, I can't think of any for this polish, at least not from my personal collection.

The formula doesn't go on very smooth on the first layer, but by the second layer, everything smooths out evenly. The layers do not have to be super thick and the finish is not as jelly-like whe dry. The semi sheer base works here because a more opaque base would cover up pretty much all the holo pieces with the exception of the ones on the very top and the effect would've been much less apparent. Drying time is pretty quick and this polish definitely needs a top coat. The one finger didn't top coat had started chipping in the first few hours, but the nails that had a top coat were fine.
Overall, this is a great polish to have in any collection. If you like holo polishes, this one is definitely for you. There is quite a bit of depth to the color since the base is actually somewhat sheer instead of completely opaque, which I really liked. This polish will set you back $8 USD and is available on Zoya's website, ulta, and various salons. I've also heard that they are available at Whole Foods Market? I actually have one rather close but I've never set foot in the store. I'll have to check and let you guys know.

If you have any polishes you'd like to see swatched from my stash, let me know and I'll put it in my queue.

Hey guys, since the day is over and the world has not ended, I have a nail polish swatch for you today. This is Zoya's Ziv from the 2012 Ornate Collection. Out of all this year's holiday collection from Zoya I was probably most excited for this one. I know that golds are a dime a dozen lately, but this one looked absolutely gorgeous in the bottle and on other people's fingers so I couldn't wait to get my hands on it. Foil is only second to jelly finishes in my favorites and this one had what appeared to be a seamless finish, if other people's swatches were anything to go by.

It actually took me a while to find this, for whatever reason. I'm not a big fan of ordering nail polish online blind without at least seeing what the polish looks like in real life first. Online photos are notorious for being different than the real product, especially if the monitor settings are off, so I was reluctant to get this blind from an online retailer. The only place I knew near me that sold Zoya polishes is ulta and I hadn't seen them there all season. I had all but given up on finding it when lo an behold, I see the display on the salon counter last week and I descended upon those racks like a starving predator.

So does it live up to the hype? Absolutely.

This polish is a gold foil with small old glitter particles scattered throughout. It's a foil and not a metallic so right off the bat, I know that there won't be those obnoxious streak lines that are a staple of metallic polishes. I am far from anal when it comes to nail polish, but those streaks bother me. I actually don't have many golds in my stash somehow so I can't say I can come up with a dupe for this polish.

The formula is lovely. Easy to apply and easy to remove. No streaks, no mess. Two coats to complete opaque color. I don't have any complaints.
Overall, I love this polish. I know that if I were to have caved and bought this blind from an online retailer, I would not have been disappointed. It's a sure fire way to get people to notice your nails if that's what you're going for. Classic holiday polish. It costs $8 USD and can be found on Zoya's website, at ulta morter and pestle stores and various salons. Definitely worth your money.
Hey guys, I have something a little different for you guys today. I'm really excited to have gotten my hands on this here little gem. The new Naked Basics palette from Urban Decay.I'm a huge fan of the Urban Decay brand in general and especially their Naked line of eyeshadows. I own both the original and the Naked 2 palette and they get a lot of love from me.

When they announced a new mostly matte Naked palette, I was pretty much on board from the concept alone. And now that I have my hands on the product, I can say that I'll get a lot of use out of this one too. If there had been one complaint that I had with the first two palettes, it would be that there isn't enough matte shades. Out of 24 shades, there is a total of 5 matte shades combined, which doesn't quite make sense for something that is supposed to be "naked".

The packaging on the Basics Palette is small enough to fit in the palm of my hand. The lid can be opened up to lie completely flat with no issues. It's plastic, so it doesn't vacuum up dirt like the velvet fuzz of the original palette and it's not metal so it's not as heavy as the second palette. Out of all the packaging on the Naked line, I think I like this one the best. It's compact and stylish. Best of both worlds, really.

There are six full size shadows. Two of which were available in other forms. Foxy was featured in the Naked 2 palette and Walk of Shame was included in the 6 pan "build your own" palette. The rest are new, variously toned browns.

The palette definitely favors those with lighter skin, as WOC would probably find little difference among the lighter shades against darker skin tones.

The palette includes:

Venus - the only non-matte color. It's an off white with a slight sheen.

Foxy - a light, yellowy beige.

Walk of Shame - a light, muted beige with pink undertones.

Naked 2 - a cool toned greige.

Faint - a light-medium muted brown.

Crave - a dark, blackened brown.

Swatches: (without primer)
I don't use MAC foundation, so I'm not quite sure what my skin tone would be with regards to that line, but my skin tone is light-medium ish with an undertone I have yet to determine (unhelpful, I know. Sorry.).
For almost every color, I had to use at least two swipes to get the matching pan color. The swatched colors are pretty true to pan, with the exception of Foxy, which is a good deal sheerer than most and will change with the nuances of your own skin tone. None of them quite performed up to the standard fare of UD shadows: there are no one swipe colors here, not even Crave, the dark brown-black. WOS and Foxy are especially sheer colors, which I knew from previous experience and they required three layers for swatching purposes. It's probably best to note that all of these colors translate better on actual eye-lids so arm swatching isn't the best judge of character. The texture on all the shades (with the exception of Foxy) are pretty creamy/buttery and go on smoothly.

Albeit, very rarely are matte shadows easy to work with and these are no exception. If I were to compare this to, say, UD Half-Baked, which is a gorgeous gold that barely needs a swipe to get rich color pay off, I'd say these shades are pretty disappointing. However, if I compare this to other matte palettes from brands across the board, these shades perform about the same as most other good matte shades. I love the natural look that they produce and am willing to put in a little extra effort for the effect. These shades take some work to get used to, but I think that has more to do with the fact that these are matte shadows and that's the nature of the beast.

Overall, this would be a nice starter palette if you're starting from scratch. If you have very little or no matte shades in your stash, this is a great way to start off. If you have other neutral matte shadows, and also if you have both Naked and/or Naked 2 palettes, it's not absolutely essential that you go run out right now and get this palette. These palettes are available on the urban decay website, sephora and ulta for $27, which turn out to be $4.50 per shadow, which considering UD singles go for $18 a pop, is a pretty good deal.
Hey guys, I have a nail art design for you guys today. I came up with this design is for the Born Pretty Store Christmas Contest. We'll see how my luck goes.

Of all the things that come out of the holiday season, I think the flood of nail designs based on the holiday theme is most amusing. There is so much glitter. It's so sparkly and gaudy and over the top and I love it. Even though I'm not a big fan of glitter nail polish, this time of year does something to my brain and for about six weeks, I can't stop coveting all the glitters. Although to be honest, most of my attention goes to the foil branch of glitter polishes, I still spare a glance for those horrendously chunky glitters too. They're always a pain to remove, but man, do they shine.

You can watch the video tutorial here:

Click here to visit my channel for more tutorials!

For this design, I had actually gone through about three different variations of gradients before settling on this one. The base color is China Glaze Pointsetta. It's an odd type of half creme-half jelly polish. The shine on this polish, even without a top coat, is pretty amazing and this polish is one of my favorite bright reds, which is saying a lot since I have way too many bright medium reds. I used Zoya's Trixie for the transition because I have yet to find a bottle of Ziv for the golden gradient I wanted, which I think may be better for the contrast against the white snowflake. The rest is done with acrylics.
Hey guys, I have a swatch for you guys today. This polish is Scuppered from butter LONDON's Holiday 2012 collection. This polish is another glitter polish, of sorts. Of all the polishes in this collection, this one is probably the most unique in terms of looks. When I first saw the press release, I thought, "Oh yay. Yet another metallic glitter bomb to add to the backlog of metallic glitter bombs in this world."/sarcasm. But as it turns out, this one is probably the most unique of the bunch.

In the bottle this polish is a bronzed copper foil/metallic that has pink, gold and green glitter. The green glitter is small, but is much more noticeable against the copper background. It's hard to be unique in a sea of 'unique', but I think this polish does pretty well in bringing something new to the table.

This polish goes on smoothly and dries very quickly if you use thinner coats. The formula is not thick or chunky and it's easy to work with. I had no issues with balding or streaking, but these types of polishes don't usually have those kind of problems. Removal was a breeze.

Overall, this is a great polish. Nowadays, it's so hard to find a polish that hasn't already been done a million times before, but this one is pretty special. It's the most unique shade of the collection, in my opinion, and my favorite from the collection. This is available on the butter LONDON website, ulta, macy's and various other department stores for $14 a pop.

This is a pretty simple ornaments on a string design that you can use for the holidays or on Christmas eve. I had originally recorded a full tutorial for this one but the picture quality throughout the entire video somehow turned out to be really blurry and practically unwatchable. It looked fine in the viewfinder while I was recording so I have no idea what happened, but it's not pretty. Oh well. The pictures I took afterwards turned out fine so it's not a complete loss.

I only used one tool for this, a 18/0 paint brush from the craft store, but any small paint brush or even a dotting tool will work fine. The only nail polish I used was butterLONDON's Dodgy Barnett for the base color. It's a gorgeous silver holo with a rainbow of multi-colored reflects and can be a bit blinding in the sun if you're not careful. ;) For the rest of the design, I used various acrylic paints that you can get in your local craft store.

Hey guys, I have another nail polish swatch for you today. I will be swatching Scallywag. This is another polish from butter LONDON's - Winter 2012 Collection. This polish is an amazing mess in the bottle. It's a glitter bomb of epic proportions. When I saw this in the store, it practically blinded me in it's glittery messiness. At the very least, it's really pretty to look at.

This is a clear based polish with multiple shades of light blue and silver glitter. At least, it looks like a clear base. As stated before, it's packed with glitter so the only thing noticeable are the glitters. Photos don't really do this polish justice when it comes to the sheer amount of hurt-your-eyes shine and it's probably not a good idea to wear this in bright sunlight if you're planning to drive. You might just dazzle yourself into a car accident (no, I'm serious. The light reflective properties are pretty awesome).

The formula on this polish is similar to that of Fiddlesticks in that the polish is a clear base that is packed to the brim with glitter. Unfortunately, this also means that the polish is pretty similar in the application as it's magenta counterpart and was hard to work with because it's drying time was so fast. I know we all love our fast drying polish, but I don't think that fast drying to the point of difficult application is the way to go. Although mistakes are easy to cover, it was still a bit frustrating trying to put this polish on. I was skeptical about the coverage at first. Most glitters are notorious for being quite sheer, but this one is opaque in two coats.

Overall, this polish is mostly not worth the $14 price of admission. It's glitzy and it's glamorous, and is pretty in the bottle, but I don't really think it transfers all that well onto the nails. It's hard to work with going and coming off. If you don't care about the application issues and just care about the glam factor, then you may want to check it out. Otherwise, skip it.
Hey guys, I have polish swatch for you guys today. It's yet another polish from the butter LONDON Holiday 2012 Collection : Fairy Cake. I am horribly prone to weakness with this is the kind of polish because it may be a glittery mess of doom, but it's a holographic glittery mess of doom. I held off from picking it up for about as long as I held off of eating cheesecake (which is to say, pretty much no time at all). OH WELL. You can't win them all, I guess.

This polish is, as stated before, a holographic glittery mess of doom. It's not necessarily a messy polish, per se, but it's the type of kind-of-small-but-not-really holographic glitter that you've seen before in various sizes and shapes. It's pretty in the bottle and pretty average on the nails. It'd be a nice layer polish over another color, though you do need a soft hand and a light layer as the glitter is packed in pretty tightly. You could also do a gradient effect if you'd like, which I always thought looked much better than a full on bedazzle nail.

The formula is a bit thick but does go on quite pretty evenly for a glitter. It dries down to that same matte that Fiddlesticks and Scallywag does, which to me is not a good thing. The texture is rough and gritty. With glitter pieces as big as this polish has, I feel that if you were to not use a top coat because you liked the finish, you would problems with the glittering rub off at random. I don't have pictures of it, but I had huge chucks of polish just fall right off at the smallest bump (and this was after the polish had dried completely).

Overall, this is the most boring polish of the bunch. At $14 a pop, it's probably not worth your money. You can find cheaper versions of this polish all over, and there will probably be something just like this in your local drugstore for a fraction of the price. Don't get me wrong, this is a nice polish with a formula to match, but I don't think it's unique enough to garner the price tag.
This is a butter LONDON polish from the Winter 2012 Collection - Fiddlesticks. From the looks of some spring releases, I think this matte grit thing may be what companies are trying to push as the next trend for the year. I, for one, don't like it. I don't hate it as much as I hate crackle nail polish, but it's certainly not something I enjoy.

This polish is a magenta toned base with tightly packed with a variety of pink and silver microglitter. It dries to an odd semi-matte finish that has a very gritty texture. The finish is reminiscent of OPI's Pepe's Purple Passion from last year's Muppet Collection.

The formula on this polish is very odd. It wasn't thick in the sense that the polish itself was thick, but it dried so fast that before you can even brush the color on your nails, the formula has already went from thin and runny to thick and goopy. By the second swipe, the polish was pretty much dried both on my nails and on the brush. Also, the removal was a train wreck. Glitter gets everywhere, under your nails, on your skin. Not a very pleasant experience.

Overall, this polish is not quite up to the butter London standard in my opinion. I'm not fond of this kind of semi-matte gritty finish, but this polish isn't great in the application or staying power either. Is it worth your hard earned $14? I'm inclined to say no. Save your money and skip this particular polish.
Hey guys, I have a swatch for you today. This polish is Jack the Lad from butter LONDON's Holiday 2012 collection. This collection is a glitter puke like many holiday collections, but it offers some nice polishes for the sparkletastic commercial market that is the winter season (or at least it is here in the U.S.). I mean seriously, we haven't even had time to digest our sugar overdose from Halloween and there are already Christmas decorations lining up the shelves at your local mega chains. Did we just up and decide to skip the thanking and go straight to the giving? Although, in terms of business savy, I suppose it's better to advertise early. It's just a bit annoying when I haven't even gotten the Black Friday sale flyers and I already see the ornament displays already up.

Anyway, back to the nail polish. I have to say that of all the polishes released, this one caught my eye first. In the bottle it looks like it's a dark, jelly-like base with lots of green and silver glitter packed in suspension. On the nail, it's actually a medium-deep green base with lots of green and silver glitter. Quite a pleasant surprise, in my opinion. The glitter is subtle in the shade but really pops if you're outside in the sun. The formula on this polish is good. Not the best in my experience, but up to par with most others in the brand. The first coat is sheer enough to clearly see the nail bed but by the second coat, I pretty much had full opacity. Removal was average, not a glittery like some of the other ones in this collection.

(flash)

Overall, this is a pretty cool polish to add to your collection if you have the change to spare. As always, this is available on the butter LONDON website, ulta, macy's and various other department stores for $14 a pop. Is it worth it? Sort of. I love the look and feel of this polish, but that's my personal preference. I don't think this particular shade is 'unique' in the sense that I can't think of any exact dupes for this shade, but the same or similar effect can be achieved with many other much less expensive brands out there. As with any product like this that starts above the $10 price point, I'd say skip it unless it's the kind of color you absolutely love and will not settle for 'almost'.

Most of the collections that the brand has been coming out with lately have been a bit meh to me, although I will admit to eyeing a few polishes from styelonomics, every once in a while.

This polish is a vibrant medium ultramarine blue. From the bottle, it looks pretty close to Nails Inc's Baker St, which I have yet to get my hands on so the comparison will have to wait until I own both. I do believe there are comparisons available somewhere in the far reaches of the interwebs if you search.

The formula for this polish is quite thick. The first layer is probably enough for complete opacity if you glob on enough. It's pretty good with self leveling and doesn't bald very easily. Keep in mind that you need to work relatively quickly as this dried very quickly down in a matter of what seemed like seconds to an odd almost-matte almost-rubber finish. If you don't move fast enough, it will streak into an ugly, patchy mess. Adding another coat will definitely help if you mess up the first layer, but the final dried finish is rather unforgiving if you make mistakes. For a person who likes to take the time to not get any polish on my cuticles, I felt a bit rushed with the application.

Swatches:

I didn't put a top coat on these swatches so you can hopefully see the texture.
The flash seemed to have unearthed a small bald spot on my pointer finger. It disappears under the shade and even in direct sunlight, though.

Overall, this is an interesting polish. I don't really have a strong opinion one way or the other for this type of polish finish. I don't love it as much as I love my jellies or my foils, but I don't hate it like I do metallics. If you liked the illamasqua rubber finish polishes and you like this particular type of in-your-face blue, then this polish may be a nice one to pick up. As always, this polish is available at essie, ulta and most drug stores for around $8 +/-1 depending on where you go.

If you have any polishes you'd like to see swatched from my stash, let me know and I'll put it in my queue.

So I had this whole thing planned out, showing how I created this nail design. I had a grand long "How To" with video recordings and everything. But then, my camera decided to be a jerk and loose about thirty minutes of video recording. The part of the video where I actually show how I paint the heads, which coincidentally is probably the most important part of the video. Since there were a ton of files associated with this design, I didn't even notice until I had started to edit the video that the files were missing. They were just gone.

Believe me when I say, there was A LOT of profanity that flowed out of my mouth. I'm pretty sure I startled my goldfish a little because they were a little listless in the aftermath of my anger. At the very least I still have the pictures that I took of the design, otherwise I would probably still be cursing right this second. I think it was a sign of things to come when I spilled half a bottle of bright orange polish all over my desk while filming this thing. It was the world trying to tell me something.

Here's to life's lemons, I guess. Doesn't make it any less hard to swallow, though. All that work *keyboard mashing* *rage quit*.
I've always loved playing video games and quite frankly, I still do. Though I never seem to have the time to play anymore, I still love the thrill of beating a game or even a hard level. I have not yet gone to see the movie, but I hear it's a treat. Just watching the previews throws me back to the days of yore when I had to go to the laundromat with my mother and spending hours playing (I sucked) or watching other people play (less suckage, but kinda boring) Street Fighter while waiting for the clothes to dry. It was that or watch the spanish channel on an endless soccer loop.

I used mostly acrylics for the design, as nail polish dries too slowly for my liking and is much harder to control than paint. My go to acrylics are the cheapo "Craft" brand from Michaels. They occasionally go on sale for 2/$1 and I tend to stock up on my favorites. I used a China Glaze polish in City Siren from last year's fall collection for the tips of the faux french tips though.

Black cats are always a staple for the Halloween season and this is something you can do to spice up your manicure when it comes time to costume up. And if you're still young enough at heart to go trick or treating, make sure you check those candies for razor blades. Or is that an urban myth?

For this design, I used China Glaze Immortal from the new Halloween collection on the fourth finger and China Glaze recycle on the rest of the fingers. You don't necessarily need a different color for an accent nail. Also, any medium to medium-dark color will do for these nails. Blue, green or even purple would look really pretty with the design. Just make sure that the color you use is not too dark as to hide the black that you will need for the cat silhouette.

Apologies for the slightly blurry photos. The lighting was just not agreeing with me today.
Hey guys, I have some James Bond inspired nails for you today. With the release of Skyfall coming up - and more importantly for your and me, the launch of OPI's collection to tie in with the movie - I thought I'd do a little tribute to our quintessential secret agent. I don't know if I want the entire collection as some of the polishes are really not my cup of tea, Moonraker I'm looking straight at you, so we'll so how weak I feel in the next few weeks.

Earlier this year, I fell for it with the Hunger Games collection from China Glaze, but I'd like to think I've learned from that experience. I'm probably never going to wear most of that collection, but I don't regret buying them and I know I can incorporate any and all of those polishes into some sort of nail design in the future. It's a little ironic that I cared so much about that collection since I didn't even know about the books prior to the announcement of the movie. And also, the only reason I knew of Jennifer Lawerence was because she played Mystique in X-men: First Class.

Anywho.

I used the OPI polish in Skyfall for the base color since I thought it fitting for the new movie. For the gradient effect at the nail tips, I used a regular makeup sponge and dabbed on the color Goldeneye, probably my favorite color from the collection despite the fact that there are probably a million and a half great gold polishes of every tone and texture in the world. For the 007 logo, I used a regular white acrylic paint that you can get at any craft store. Seal it all up with a top coat and voila - a nice little bit of class to bring to the movies if you want to jazz up your viewing experience.

I've also recorded a tutorial for this nail design. If you'd like to see it, click here.
Hey guys, I have a butterLONDON swatch for you today. I have the color in Two Fingered Salute, which is a Nordstrom exclusive in the US. I scooped up the last bottle in my local store, but I'm sure they'll restock as it seems to be a pretty popular color. I know that this isn't the only exclusive at Nordstrom, but I couldn't find the other colors in store and I'm not a fan of buying cosmetics blind. Internet swatches are notoriously disappointing for nail polish.

This color is reminiscent of burnished gold with the light green/teal base that was mostly opaque and with copper/gold flecks suspended in the mix. It's not quite a glitter, but it's also not quite a flakie or a foil either. It's a nice balance between all three finishes and I really liked the way it looked even though this is probably not the best color for my skin-tone.

The formula of this polish is on par with most other good butterLONDON polishes. It's a bit thin but it goes on even without much effort. It will need at least two coats to be opaque as the first coat will be rather sheer. If you use two thin coats, you might even need a third coat to completely cover the nail line. The dry time is average, but the color might suffer from some balding if you don't wait enough time between coats. It dries to a smooth finish (no gritty feeling) but will definitely benefit from a top coat.

Overall, this is a nice polish from a nice luxury brand. The price on this is a bit steep at $14 a pop, but if you have some money burning a hole in your pocket, this is not a bad place to drop it.

If you have any polishes you'd like to see swatched from my stash, let me know and I'll put it in my queue.
