OPI - Get Your Number (swatches and review)

Hey guys, I have a swatch for you today. This is another OPI liquid sand nail polish from the Mariah Carey Collection: Get Your Number. I wasn't very interested in this type of finish when I first saw them on the press releases, but I must say, if this kind of polish continues with this level of quality, this may become a favorite of mine. I don't think anything will live up to jelly/sorbet polishes in my eyes, but I'll be the first to admit that this kind of polish surprised me.

I had purchased Stay the Night and Get Your Number first, to test out the formula and have been impressed so far, so I think I'm going to go out and get the other two too. Not too happy about the price hike, but at least it's not as egregious as some other brands *coughmacimlookingatyou*.

OPI - Stay the Night (swatches and review)

Hey guys, got a little swatch for you today. I have OPI's Stay the Night on the chopping block. Since this is a pretty new texture to my personal knowledge, I don't have any dupes for this polish. It's a blackened base packed with what appears to be pink round glitter. It seems that these 'liquid sand' texture polishes are all the rage. I'll be the first to admit that I've been extremely suspicious of this. The whole crackle polish (my least favorite polishes of all) faze that nail companies went through a few years ago, the matte faze, and all the other gimmicky polishes over the years have made me weary of new textures.

However, I am a huge advocate of innovation and new ideas. Even if someone tries something new but crashes and burns, it is a huge plus in my book that something new was tried. Without innovation, this world would be a pretty boring place. So this new 'liquid sand' line that was introduced with the new Mariah Carey line was kind of a must-try for me.

essie - Where's My Chauffeur? (swatches and review)

Hey guys, I have another polish from essie's Leading Lady collection: Where's My Chauffeur? This kind of polish always gets me because I'm a sucker for light blue shades. Unfortunately for me, these types of light blue are either a hit or miss for my skin tone. For some reason, certain light blue colors clash with my skin and make me look orange and/or ashy (sometimes at the same time) while others look fine. Mostly they clash though, which is a shame since all of them are so pretty in the bottle.

This polish is what appeared to be a China Glaze For Audrey dupe in the press release. Just from the bottle appearance alone, this is not exactly a dupe. They're in the same color shade and seem to have the same undertones but For Audrey is just a smidge lighter. It's not noticeable unless you're really looking. It's also close to China Glaze Aquadelic and essie's Turquoise and Caicos, but with just a hint more green: a subtle difference, but different nonetheless.

Nail Art - Another Flower Nail Tutorial

Hey guys, I have a small nail art tutorial for you guys today. It's my own version of the pink flowers tutorial that's the go-to of many a nail artist. And I'll be the first to admit that I love my flowery nails. I really do. It's a sickness. But man is it pretty.

Yes, it's still the middle of winter, and yes, there will probably be more winter to come, but one can never be too early for spring. Unless you're my mom. She's not very fond of the pollen dust that seems to stick to you like a second skin.

You can watch the video tutorial here:

essie - Leading Lady (swatches and review)

Hey guys, hope you had a wonderful holiday! To kick off the new year, I have a nail polish swatch for you. This is essie's Leading Lady from their winter collection of the same name. I had a love-hate relationship with essie. Sheer pinky-nudes are a weakness of mine and essie is a veritable Shangri La of those kinds of colors. One of my favorite polishes of all time (Nude Beach) is from essie's line. Unfortunately,  the formula is either a hit or a miss for me even though the colors are to die for. They have some incredible sheer nude-pinks and some awesome creme colors, but sometimes *coughabsolutelyshoreimlookingatyoucough* the formula falls flat.

These days, I don't see much of that problem. Ever since they've branched out from their core line of sheer nudes and release a ton of collections, I feel that they have still been pretty hit or miss with the formula. Even though they don't release 12 color collections as all their collections are usually 6 polishes, they're like MAC cosmetics in releasing like 90849823 collections a year. It's super hard to keep up with and it can get annoying at times. I think I bought almost every polish that they released in 2011 and I've pretty much put myself on an essie ban when I had to change my storage method for the third time because of the ridicuous amount of essies I was getting.

Zoya - Blaze (swatches and review)

Hey guys, I have a nail polish swatch for you today. This is Zoya's Blaze from the 2012 Ornate Collection. I thought the way to spell the name was "Blaise", because of the similarly named Harry Potter character, but the variation does make sense. I think that if you have the balls to name your kid Blaze, you're either a pretty awesome parent or you were trashed at the time of the naming process and your child will hate you for the rest of her life. Either way, it's a cool name.

Out of all the polishes I bought out of this collection, I was probably the least excited for this one. Although this is a great color on it's own and Zoya hasn't yet disappointed me with regards to formula/texture, I have a veritable ton of polishes in the red color family and this one didn't pop out at me as anything special. It was, however, a holo finish, which I do like so I picked it up. It certainly looked nice in the bottle.

Zoya - Logan (swatches and review)

Hey guys, I have a nail polish swatch for you today. This is Zoya's Logan from the Ornate Collection. Because of Storm, the first thing I thought of when I saw the name of this polish was Wolverine. I thought it strange since Zoya polishes were only named after girls. Of course, Logan is one of those gender neutral names that fits either way so it really doesn't matter. But, it did give me pause for a few moments there.

How cool would it be if there was an entire line of polishes dedicated to the X-men, though? I would buy them all, even if they were horrendous quality. Seriously, I'm that obsessed. Anyone out there excited for Days of Future's Past? I know I am.

Anywho, I was as excited for this polish as I was for Ziv. Dark green foils are right up my alley and the press photos/swatches were all gorgeous. Even in the store, I was aching to put this on my nails to see how it would look because it looked damn good in the bottle.

Zoya - Storm (swatches and review)

Hey guys, I have a nail polish swatch for you today. This is Zoya's Storm from the winter Ornate Collection. Just the name made me want this one. It also helps that the polish itself was pleasing to look at, but one of my favorite superheroes as a child was Storm. Never mind that we were technically suppose to identify with Jubilee (and she was also Asian too) but I never liked Mary Sues and that's what she came off to me as. Storm on the other hand, she was cool. Calling up lighting at will, creating hurricanes, etc. During the winter, when I didn't want to go to school, I didn't pray to God for snow. I prayed to Storm. I don't know why I thought that made sense, since I was fully aware that she was a fictional character, but it somehow worked in my mind at the time.

Anywho, with that background, I was definitely going to pick this polish up whether it was a dud or not. It looked pretty awesome on the press release and looked even better on the swatches floating around online. I coveted this one almost as much as I did Ziv, and I'm so glad I was able to get it.
